My how time fly’s when you’re having fun. It seems as though I just graduated from high school. I can’t believe I’m a senior! I fear the future and what’s going to happen next. Where will I end up? Will I be close to home? But for the time being, I will forget about that and make the most out of my last year. Waking up late because you have class later on in the day is one of the many perks of being a senior!
First, no more general education classes. For the underclassmen that don’t know, get your Gen. Ed’s finished your first two years. I hated math and science. Because of this, you are required to take 6 -8 hours of each. Once you’ve done this, it’s pretty much a breeze from here on out. It’s also wise to avoid as many hours your senior year and save yourself from being the laughing stock of the class and being the oldest person in the room taking algebra.
Second, you have already established your friends. As a senior, you don’t have to go through the stage of making new friends, feeling alone, falling out with roommates or what have you because you are getting closer to knowing who you are as a person. At this point you also know what you want and it makes everything easier.
Third, if you don’t know how to study now, it’s too late. But for those who do, you have your study habits down pat and you know what and what doesn’t work for you. I can avoid slaving over my books because the higher up you get in your courses; the more the information becomes redundant in most majors. I don’t know about others, but that allows me to cut down my study time.
Four, connections. Not only having relationships established with previous professors will pay off, but also keeping in touch with previous internship coordinators from freshman and sophomore years will assist you in getting a possible job once you have graduated. I’ve gotten numerous recommendation letters because of this.
Five, having fun. This is the time to experience things you haven’t so you wont regret anything. I’ve done things so I will have stories to tell my children and grandchildren. Getting involved in a sorority is one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. I’ve written for The Daily O’Collegian, been a member of Orange Pride, been a member of the Student Union Activities Board and attended many events on campus that I will always remember.
I don’t have a lot of time as a senior. I’m constantly working on resumes, cover letters, sending in clips, audiotapes and etc.…for internship opportunities and jobs. I’m getting to a place where I need a change of surrounding. I don’t know if this comes as a senior because you know you’re almost out the door or if it comes as a junior. My focus as a senior is continuing to build my resume and get involved in as many things as possible before its too late.
