As someone who loves every genre of songs, I have heard my fair share of songs that are absolute jams and bangers. As March is Women’s History Month, I’d made a list of songs sung by female artists that inspire me and I sincerely hope it does the same for others as well.
- “This Is Me” by Keala Settle
-
Everyone knew of this anthem from The Greatest Showman. I heard this song when I went through a bad time in my life. I was floored the first time I heard it. Ms. Settle’s powerful voice and the message behind the song was exhilarating that this song became one of my most favorites. It gave me hope and encouraged me to be who I really am, a main theme in the song as well as in the movie.
- “Praying” by Kesha
-
Of course, I had to mention one of the Queens of mid-to-late 2000s pop songs. Kesha has been a staple in iconic songs for kids growing up in the 2000s and she’s made another iconic song. It’s different from her old ones but this anthem felt more genuine, more of the Kesha that we didn’t really know back then. It was-and still is- empowering.
- “S.L.U.T.” by Bea Miller
-
I’ve been a fan of Bea Miller since seventh grade and I believe she has underrated songs in her discography. This was one of her newer, more “grown-up” ones and I am LIVING for it. The self-love and body positive messages in this banger is absolutely what thirteen-year-old Esther needed back in 2014.
- “Good As Hell” by Lizzo
-
Who would I be without mentioning Lizzo once in this list? An absolute QUEEN like Lizzo creates and sings these incredible bangers filled with self-love messages. The world is better with people like Lizzo in it.
- “Brave” by Sara Bareilles
-
Besides being a staple in late 2000s songs and having a fun music video, this song uplifts and talks of being “brave” in new situations. It’s encouraging and a bop at the same time.
There are many other amazing songs written and sung by women that inspire many people. My list is just the tip of the iceberg so I hope I led you to ones that would give you strength.
Also, I recommend the whole soundtrack from the movie, Birds of Prey, when you’re feeling down.
