“New year, new me.” A quote millions of people try to act on starting January 1st. New Year’s Resolutions are created every year, whether it be eating healthier or working out more. But let’s be real, how many of us actually stick to these resolutions longer than a couple of weeks?
It’s so easy to make these promises to ourselves but never keep them up. So, here is some advice that could help you keep up with your new goals!
For one, don’t make your goal so general. It’s easy to be broad and say “I’m going to eat way better” or “I’m going to work out and lose weight.” But making your goal that broad is the main reason why it doesn’t last. You try to change so many things at once it can be overwhelming.
Try focusing on smaller, specific goals rather than the main goal. Something such as, “I’m going to cut out soda and replace pasta with zucchini noodles.” It’s more specific and you’ll most likely be able to make those changes.
Another example could be instead of saying you’ll work out more, maybe you just want to focus on going to the gym on Mondays and Wednesdays. Or that you’ll do 30 sit ups and 30 jumping jacks every day.
Again, make it more specific so you’ll be more inclined to do it and eventually it’ll become a routine for you.
The best advice to remember would be to not take New Year’s Resolutions so seriously. Make these changes because you want to, not because you feel like you should since everyone else is doing it. It is good to try new things or get healthy, just don’t put too much stress on yourself!
It’s so much easier to stick with new goals if you enjoy what you’re doing and am passionate about making that change. If you are not enjoying working on the new goal, then you’ll be more likely to quit it.
So take it one step at a time and make it easy on yourself!
