David is one very involved student on campus!  You may know him from his involvement in the Student Government Association, the Asian American Student Association, the journalism school or just from seeing him around campus…..because he is literally everywhere! This is one student leader who is super involved, which makes him worthy of being deemed our very first campus celebrity!  Learn a little bit more about Mr. Purdie and his busy life at OSU!

HC OSU: What organizations are you involved in on campus?
David: Student government association (I’m the diversity chair) , the Multicultural Affairs Committee (I’m the chair for this, falls under SGA), School of Media & Strategic Communications ambassador,  Public Relations Student Society of America, American Medical Student Association, Vietnamese American Student Association.  I also help out Office of Multicultural Affairs with various things like the “diversity round table”.

HC OSU:  What positions/ internships have you held since being in college?
David:
I’ve been president of the Vietnamese Student Association, VASA freshmen rep (freshmen year). I am now a SMSC ambassador, SGA-diversity chair and multicultural affairs committee chair. I have interned for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs at OSU.

HC OSU:  Have you studied abroad? If so, where?
David:
Yes, at Yonsei University. In Seoul, South Korea

HC OSU:  What did you gain from studying abroad?
David:
I have gained a sense of open mindedness, the ability to understand different cultures and the ability to be flexible in what I believe in.

HC OSU:  What are your short term goals for after graduation? Long term dream career?
David:
For short term goals, I plan to go to grad school or med school, hopefully on the west coast.  In the long term, I plan to become a director at a major university changing students lives or within the health field doing the same thing.

HC OSU: Who is your role model? Why?
David:
My role model is my mom. She never gives up and is always doing something to help others. She inspires me to become a better person, friend, and son.

HC OSU: What is one personal goal or standard you have for yourself?
David:
This one is tough, but I would have to say honesty and be respectable.

HC OSU:  How do you plan to impact OSU?
David:
I plan to impact OSU by broadening the students’  horizons. I plan to make an impact on the diversity of the campus so that everyone knows what is going on, and how they can be a part of organizations even though they aren’t that ethnicity. I hope to achieve the sense of unity within all the diverse groups on campus.

HC OSU:  What is your message (or what you hope to leave behind) for OSU?
David:
I hope to leave behind a sense of accomplishment at OSU, not only in academics but also within the diversity of our campus. I want people to believe that they can accomplish anything as long as they put their mind to it.
