The Gardiner Art Gallery’s first exhibit of the new year has captured the attention of students and staff. Mark H. Cowardin’s recent sculptural pieces work together to form “What’s Up?”, a collection that centers on the disconnection of people and the history of the items they possess. The collection also highlights the influence people’s possessions have on the environment.Â
The Gardiner Art Gallery will host several events centering on “What’s Up?”, including a reception and artist talk.
The Stillwater Multicultural Center will hold a workshop with Cowardin. The workshop will be Jan. 24 beginning at 10 a.m. During the workshop, Cowardin will teach attendees to learn and draw inspiration from the world around them. After observing nature’s effect on other aspects of daily life, attendees will create their own sculptures out of recycled materials. The workshop is free, but reservations are required to attend. To RSVP, contact the Oklahoma Arts Council at 405-744-2783.
The exhibit will be housed at the Gardiner Art Gallery until Feb. 14. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Gardiner Art Gallery’s next exhibit will be “Across the Divide”, a collection of works from 18 Chinese artists who are teaching studio art at universities across the U.S.
