It’s October, which means it is officially spooky season. That means that here in our own Oklahoma City, Fright Fest is in full swing. Fright Fest means a mix of haunted houses, scary mazes, and roller coasters are all in the same place every weekend of October. This past weekend, a group of my friends and I went, and I’m here to give you the rundown.
First, if you have a way to buy the haunted attraction passes online, do it. This way, you save money, and you are actually getting the fast passes, so you get to skip the long lines for the haunted houses.
Second, make sure to find a map. While we found most of what we were looking for without help, we kept passing two of the big haunted attractions just because we didn’t have a map telling us where they were.
Third, make sure you know what you want to do. In other words, if you know you aren’t going to want to do anything with scary clowns, then avoid the carnival-themed maze. The major attractions have a lot to offer.
This year, there are seven large haunted houses, mazes, and themed areas of the park. Two of these are large haunted houses with an apocalyptic world theme, in which the characters are dressed as if they themselves carry the plague. Then, there are two outdoor, slightly smaller haunted houses. They follow a similar theme as the indoor ones, but they are more zombie focused. Finally, there are three mazes, two of which focus on clowns. From these seven attractions, there is already plenty to offer for those looking for a fun night of scares. Outside of the large attractions, there are smaller haunted houses and mazes meant for a quick scare and are appropriate for the younger members of your group. Along with this, there are characters walking around the park the entire night, walking up to those who appear most frightened, just to give them another jump. For my friends, these extra characters provided a slightly scary, but mostly fun, experience to interact with the scarers. And if you aren’t looking for an entire night of frights, all of the rides in the park are also open. Some have been decorated according to the theme of Fright Fest, of course, to add to the spooky season of October.
If you have been looking for something fun and scary to do with your friends, Fright Fest is definitely the way to go. Even if you’re not the one getting scared, watching your friends scream their way through a haunted house is sure to make your night a fun one.
