We all have that dream of moving out, having a cute apartment, and maybe having your best friend as your roommate — the complete and total freedom of adulthood. But, until then, you live with your family, which has some perks and some not so great aspects.
Let’s start with the benefits.
First of all, you are saving money (duh.) Unless your parents charge rent, you are good. Apartments are so expensive this day in age —it’s ridiculous. Plus, you’ll spend more time at work than actually hanging in the apartment anyway.
Another benefit is the home cooking because nothing can compare to all of mom’s famous meals.
Sometimes, having family around is very entertaining. We are all so close that nothing will make any of us uncomfortable.
In addition, there is always someone around that can help with any type of favor that is needed. I live with my parents, and I help with bills and errands when I can. They really appreciate the help!
With the benefits comes the downsides.
It’s all fun and games until arguing happens. It’s like mini wars, and sometimes you can’t help but pick sides. Everything gets awkward, especially when it’s my parents fighting.
The lack of privacy is probably the most annoying part of living with family. It is like no one knows that when someone is showering, it’s not the time to go in the bathroom and have a conversation. I also hate when people walk into my room without knocking.
The second most irritating thing is when you have a conversation with someone in your bedroom, and then they leave the door a crack open.
Nothing makes me angrier then when someone eats the food I was saving in the fridge.
But, despite all of that, family is family — you have no choice but to love them. They aren’t perfect, but neither are you, and they still deal with your flaws. Just save up for a vacation because everyone needs a few days away from their family.
