Redefine B.Y.O.B. This Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Old Westbury chapter.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be the most romantic holiday of the year – everyone’s out shopping and spending on their significant other or treating them in lavish ways.  It’s romantic, beautiful, and full of affection… if you have a significant other to share the holiday with! If you happen to be on the other side of the spectrum and without a bae, Valentine’s Day may be one of the worst holidays for you. Everyone is cute and cuddly and you’re miserable. Why? Because you’re single. Here’s the thing: you don’t need a holiday to be treated and loved and you don’t need another person to do it for you either. You can be treated special and appreciated by the most important person in your life… yourself! Here are a few tips on how to treat yo’ self if you are by yo’ self this holiday season:

1. Sit at home and watch a movie:

On Valentine’s Day movie theaters are usually packed and crazy because couples are out on dates and hogging all the movie theaters. So stay at home to avoid long lines and romantic comedies that usually suck. Sit at home and cuddle up with your favorite movie and enjoy a tall glass of wine… or three.

2. Go on a Shopping Spree:

Don’t go and treat yourself to an all-expense paid trip to the Bahamas and don’t go max out your credit card at Victoria Secret or Express trying to buy yourself a whole new wardrobe. Instead, try a trip to Lush and buy a bath bomb, melt, or bubble bar so you can soak in your tub and drink a glass of wine and enjoy your day to yourself.

3. Order some takeout or cook for yourself:

Restaurants will be crazy! If you have ever been to a restaurant on Valentine’s Day you will probably agree. Most places have a long wait time or you have to make a reservation just to get a seat. So instead why don’t you call up your favorite Chinese place and order the large plate of whatever you’re craving? Maybe you’re not in the takeout mood so cook yourself a meal and enjoy a glass of wine… see a reoccurring theme?

4. Treat it like any other day:

So it’s Valentine’s Day what is that supposed to mean? It’s a regular day in your mind: February 14th, just like February 13th and February 15th except the chocolate is a little more expensive. Treat it like any other day and binge watch Netflix, read a book, or do whatever you normally do on a regular Tuesday.

Whatever you decide to do remember to be your own bae and love yourself because no one loves you better than you!
