Winter Is Here (SPOILERS)

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Old Westbury chapter.

After several years of hearing winter is coming, it’s finally here. Winter is here folks, and it’s in full force. This season was one to remember, with twists and turns no one knew were coming (especially since the series has passed where the last book ended).

As all Game of Thrones fans have come to expect, major character death is a way for the writers to play with fans emotions, for example, the death of Ned Stark. Sometimes though, like in the case of Ramsay (Snow) Bolton, they kill off major characters that we want to die in the worst ways possible because they are the epitome of evil.

This season began on a great note for fans. Arya finally crossed a name off her list last season, and this season she completed her revenge for the red wedding by killing those who killed her family: Walder Frey along with ‘every Frey who means a damn thing.’

“When people ask you what happened here, tell them the north remembers. Tell them winter came for House Frey.”

At the wall, Bran makes his way to the night’s watch meeting with Jon’s brothers. The army of the dead grows closer and larger.

Back in Winterfell, Jon sets up defense for the wall by asking the free folk if they will man it. Tormund agrees. Like all siblings, Jon and Sansa are arguing on how to punish those who betrayed them in the Battle of the Bastards. While Sansa wants to remain true to Ned’s teaching, punish betrayal and reward loyalty, Jon wants to follow Ned’s lesson of those who deliver the sentence should swing the sword, meaning you cannot punish the son of a traitor for his father’s betrayal.

“The man who passes the sentence should swing the sword.”

In King’s Landing, Cersei creates a map of the world to see where her enemies will attack, and, as it looks, the Lannister’s are surrounded. Euron comes to King’s Landing to create an Alliance with the Lannister’s.

SURPRISE! Ed Sheeran cameo.

After her many battles and struggles, Daenerys moves forward with her army, the unsullied, the second sons (minus Dario Naharis), and the Dothraki. Daenerys gets one step closer to taking back her throne. Daenerys presses her hand to the sand on the shore and feels the true homecoming of the queen, and she arrives at Dragonstone.
