Here’s a toast to anyone who’s been dwelling on who they used to be. Girl, you have the power to be anyone you want to be, whenever you want to do it. Cheers to that!
It’s safe to say that each of us go through seasons of our lives. We experience the trials the triumphs, the breakups, the makeups, and the losses. For me, specifically, before transferring to Ole Miss, I was in the midst of a downward spiral. I was finding pleasure in all the wrong things and making a fool out of myself. However, I had a chance to start over and that chance is here, in Oxford, Mississippi.
For me, it’s a new school year and a new place. So I vowed to myself that who I used to be, will no longer linger in my mind anymore. She will no longer make my decisions for me. I vowed to become a better person and a better student. So, for anyone who feels like they can’t start over, or their past is still holding them back from who they want to be, I’ll be the one to say this: You are capable of achieving any goal you have. You are stronger than those trials who have defeated you. And you can transform at your own pace, in your own way.
If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that comparing your progress to the girl sitting beside you, will defeat you and make you feel smaller than what you are. You must give yourself credit where credit is due. Did you make a bad grade and your roommates/sisters didn’t? Did you buy those $130 pair of leggings? Did you do your make-up today? Did you not get the job you applied for? Did he choose her instead of you? Stop doing that to yourself. You will never be the person you want to be if you dwell on things that don’t matter or the things of your dark past.
Cheers to walking in our own paths. Cheers to becoming the woman we want to be, at our own pace. Cheers to being you, and no one else.
