15 Things That People Miss When They Move Off Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oneonta chapter.

1. Being able to roll out of bed and run to class 10 minutes before it starts.

2. The convenience of going to the dining hall and picking up a full plate of food, rather than having to cook your own.

3. Not having to go through the whole grocery shopping process – walking through the aisles, picking out food, paying (the worst), and unloading the bags in at least 3 trips. It definitely puts in perspective how difficult grocery shopping for the whole family must be for our moms or dads!

4. Dropping our dishes off before leaving the dining hall, instead of having to wash all of them by hand.

5. Having a warm room at all times during the winter, rather than having to bundle up in the house in order to avoid paying a high electric and gas bill.

6. The convenience of having free laundry right in the basement of the dorms, rather than having to go to a laundromat or to a friend’s house that has a washer and dryer.

7. Being able to walk to all of your friends’ rooms, whether they were down the hall or in the next building over.

8. Having your bathroom cleaned – cleaning a bathroom that several girls use to shower, do makeup and hair, brush teeth, etc. is always a scary job!

9. Having your whole floor of girls’ closets to sift through to find the perfect outfit every Friday and Saturday night.

10. Having a quiet place to study in the dorms, like the study lounge, or being walking distance from the library. I don’t know about you but when I try to study in my room, I just end up under my covers watching Netflix… oops!

11. Having furniture provided for us, so that we didn’t have to buy our own, lug it up to school in a U-Haul, and carry it up 2 flights of stairs into our houses.

12. Having time to go home and lay down when you had a short break in between classes.

13. Being able to walk downstairs to the vending machine any time of day or night, when you ran out of snacks.

14. Being able to walk to mills market to get any midnight snack you ever wanted!

15. Having a car here is great and all, but I know that we all miss not having to spend money on gas to drive to and from campus several times a day.

Of course, living off-campus has it’s perks too!
