Let’s be honest, our freshman dorm rooms were cute and all, but there was so much stuff going on inside that they got overwhelming! It felt cluttered because we went crazy with the variety of colors and patterns to choose from. Why wouldn’t we choose them all? When I decorated my room this year, I toned down the craziness and made my room feel brighter and calmer. Here are 5 tips I have on how to make this possible for you:
1. Light Colored Comforters
Last year, I had a purple comforter with a pattern on it. This year I changed it up and now have a simple, grey comforter. This light color made a huge difference in my room! It makes it feel open and bright.
2. String Lights
A simple and inexpensive way to make your room brighter is by putting lights up. The harsh lights in the dorm room make the room unappealing. String lights give a soft glow to the room and make it more relaxing.
3. Simple Decorations
Last year, I made the mistake of bringing huge collages of me and all my friends. This year, I changed it up and decorated my room with pictures and canvases. I hung the pictures up with string and put canvases in between them. This allowed me to cover more wall space, but it looked less cluttered because it isn’t as bulky.
4. Color Scheme
Another mistake I made last year was that I had a bunch of different colors. I didn’t care if it didn’t match. If I liked the color, I bought it. This year, I decided to do a grey and blue theme. This makes my room look more put together and less chaotic. The pop of blue against the grey also makes it brighter because it adds tasteful color rather than random colors everywhere.
5. Decorative pillows
Last year the only pillow I had on my bed was the pillow I used to sleep on. This year I have cute pillows (another perk of this is it makes me want to make my bed every day). I put white and blue pillows on my grey comforter which goes with my theme. It makes my bed look brighter because it adds some color!
Here’s my room!
With all of these tips, you are on the way to having a brighter and more comfortable room!
