5 Low Budget Halloween Activities

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Sometimes when Halloween season comes along the pressure of having a great costume and throwing a killer party can be a lot for your wallet to handle. While in college you learn to cut back on excessive spending and live more simply in more ways than one. Listen below are some of my favorite low budget things to do for Halloween season!

Carve pumpkins with friends!

You really only need a household knife and maybe $10 for a pumpkin of your choosing. Then all you have to do is grab your buddies and laugh it up as you deal with messy pumpkin guts and carving your best scary face in!

DIY Costumes!

With the help of your friends and a trip to your local dollar store you can get oversized T-shirts and create many different kinds of low budget costumes that will suffice for any Halloween occasion! From salt and pepper to a tequila and lime duo, the possibilities are endless!

Baking Halloween Treats!

Use those leftover pumpkin guts and separate all the seeds, and then you wash and roast them in the oven with some cinnamon and sugar for a healthier sweet treat! Or you can spend less than $5 and get some cute pre cut Halloween cookies and bake those with friends as well! Or if you’re too lazy like me, just have each friend buy a variety bag of candy and pretend you’re a little kid again! Organize all your treats into categories and then trade with your friends, and eat until you have a sugar high of course!

MUST be 21 and over ONLY! Movie Drinking game

Grab a group of friends and have each person contribute $10 to make for a very fun movie marathon. With your pooled money you and your friends can make a decent amount of jello shots to go with any made up drinking game to go with a movie of your choice. Once your jello shots are made pick any Halloween movie and make some rules. Example: Each time someone screams you have to do a jello shot. Here is part of a great one for the movie Hocus Pocus below (click on the image to see the full drinking game)!

Carpool to a Corn Maze

In the mood for something more scary and exciting? Gather a group of friends and carpool to one of your local pumpkin patches with a corn maze! It’s guaranteed to not cost very much and will leave you with a bunch of funny memories to laugh at for the rest of the night!
