HCO: What are you doing in South Africa this summer?Â
I will be spending two weeks in South Africa for a volunteer trip with the program Reach Out Volunteers. During the first week, I’ll be working at a village creche (day care) and I’ll be helping improve the children’s facilities, helping them learn English, and being a new friend to play with. The next week I will be at a Game Reserve helping monitor and track animals such as elephants, rhinos, and cheetahs that are at risk from poachers.
HCO: How did you hear about this opportunity?
It was one of those short announcements made before class and it really caught my attention. So I checked out the website and I knew right away that I wanted to sign up.
HCO: Have you gone on any trips like this before?
Nope. This will be my first time traveling outside of the U.S. on my own, but I am so excited!
HCO: What clubs or extracurricular activities do you do on the side of school?
Besides schoolwork, I’m involved in Greek Life as a member of Pi Beta Phi and with that I stay really involved with campus life and philanthropic service. I also like to be active and play in intramural sports. As for off campus I work as a server at the Mexican restaurant, El Torito.
HCO: What inspired you to choose your major?
Psych has always interested me. I watched a lot of the TV show, Criminal Minds, and I loved the idea of understanding why people do what they do.
HCO: What is your dream job?
Something that makes me happy. I’d like to be able to help people that are in need. That, or if I could get paid to just do Pinterest projects for the rest of my life that would be cool too.Â
