This weeks Campus Profile is on Natasha Gabbayan! Natasha is a Social Science major at the University of Oregon and an LA-based fashionista. This week I had the opportunity to talk to her about what style means to her.
HCO: How would you define your style?
It is hard to label myself with one definitive style. My clothing selection for the day is very dependent on my mood. If I’m cheery I know I’ll find myself wearing lighter colors and springy clothes, such as rompers and dresses. If I’m feeling edgy, I tend to lean towards wearing darker colors and items such as ripped jeans and leather jackets. In a general sense, my style is very LA-based in its electiveness. Â
HCO: What is one of your favorite go to outfits?
For everyday attire, I usually find myself wearing ripped jeans, a loose white top, a comfy cardigan, and a pair of good sneakers, either my white high-top vans or my supergas.
HCO: Do you think where you’re from has affected your style?
If I weren’t from the Los Angeles area, my style would not be as broad as it is. The various fashion influences in LA have really helped to mold my style. The small shops found along Fairfax and Melrose are good representatives of my LA-based style.
HCO: What is your favorite clothing store to shop at and why?
When it comes to online shopping, my go-to store is ASOS. They have such a wide selection of styles. Also, you can find some amazingly affordable deals if you take the time to browse. I like Urban Outfitters’ online store when I know I’m looking for something specific. Their website is easy to navigate and their style is very definitive. When I’m home in LA, I love to shop at the Fairfax Flea Market. I usually find great vintage t-shirts, boyfriend jeans, and boots while I’m shopping there.
HCO: What do you believe makes a good outfit?
I really believe shoes are important when building a good look. Any average outfit can be transformed into something chic with the right pair of shoes. If I’m in the mood to dress comfortable, I can still make a pair of tights and a ratty t-shirt look good with a cute pair of sneakers.Â
HCO: Are their any currently fashion trends circulating that you don’t like?
I’ve never been a big fan of Birkenstocks. Those particular sandals never seem to correlate well with my style.
HCO: Do you have any fashion inspirations?
Some of my of favorite fashion inspirations are bloggers. Julie Sarinana, or Sincerely Jules, has a great bohemian look. Her outfits are always very casual, but she does a great job of making them pop with all the right accessories. I also really admire Selena Gomez because she always dresses for herself. She takes a lot of style risks regardless of how the public eye might criticize her choices.Â
