Darrion Weems ’11

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Name: Darrion Weems
Age: 22
Hometown: Los Angeles, CA
Class: Fall ‘11
Major: English and Sociology
Relationship Status: Sorry ladies, he’s taken!

HCUO: How long have you been playing football?
Darrion: Since my sophomore year of high school, and back in the day, I used to play running back. When I was younger, I wanted to play basketball in college, but then I got recruited for football, and now I play left tackle for the Ducks, #74.

HCUO: What’s the most rewarding and most challenging part of being on the UO football team?
Darrion: The most rewarding thing I would say is when you come together with a group of people and the goals you set out to achieve are actually achieved, like winning games and playing in championships. And the most challenging thing is the physical aspect of playing the game itself. It’s painful and not for the weak of heart.

HCUO: What’s the most romantic thing you’ve ever done for your girlfriend?
Darrion: Well, every day is just teeming with romance…but the most romantic thing I’ve done? I remember one time I made dinner and lit some candles in the shape of a heart on the table, and there was nice soothing music playing. I mean, that’s not the most romantic thing, but it’s the most romantic thing I can think of right now!

HCUO: Describe the best meal you’ve ever eaten.
Darrion: The best meal I’ve ever eaten that was cooked by somebody I know is when my girlfriend made the most amazing chicken I’ve ever tasted in my whole life, and I had a stomach ache for like seven hours straight. The food was so good, so it was worth it. The best meal I’ve ever eaten at a restaurant was at Fogo de Chao when we went to Arizona, and we sat there and ate for like an hour. I had every kind of meat that’s on this earth, like filet mignon, and I made a pretty amazing salad at the salad bar!

HCUO: What type of girl do you think would make the best girlfriend?
Darrion: Probably some mixed bilingual chick from Germany that’s really smart…so a geeky bilingual European chick that’s mixed and goes to the U of O.

HCUO: So in other words, your girlfriend?
Darrion: Yeah!

HCUO: What is the most attractive feature on a girl at first sight?
Darrion: That’s so hard, I don’t know…probably the way she carries herself, like when you can tell that she’s confident. There are millions of beautiful women, but at the end of the day, a girl that’s less attractive becomes more attractive because of their confidence than a girl that is attractive and lacks confidence.

HCUO: Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Darrion: Be excited about what you do, and you’ll do it well; be excited about your life and the way you live it; and be excited about those around you, and they’ll love you and you’ll love them back. Go Ducks!

A University of Oregon junior and San Francisco native, Charmaine Ng loves authentic noodle dishes and will always opt for Asian and Italian cuisine when pressed to choose a restaurant. She is a self-proclaimed "noodler," someone who uses her noodle to collaborate with others and bring big ideas to life. She interns for a student-run full-service ad agency, blogs for a wedding and event planning company, and runs the UO Muggle Quidditch League. In her spare time, she sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps - and dabbles in social media and blogging, her two biggest passions. Her quirkiness isn't apparent at first, but then she starts talking about packaging design and making funny faces, and you wonder what happened to that shy Asian girl you first met. With ambition bursting beyond the campus walls, Charmaine can't wait to graduate and work for an agency, company, or publication in community outreach efforts using social media.
