Getting in Gear for Spring Baseball

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

It’s official, the sun is starting to peak out behind those Eugene, Oregon clouds and we all know what springtime means…baseball season! The Ducks baseball team has already started their season with eight wins and three losses. As of last week and according to www.ncaa.com, the Ducks were ranked 6th in the nation amongst Division 1 baseball colleges. So ladies, it is clear that our boys are working hard this season and it’s about time we show up to the home games to support them. But I know what a lot of you may be thinking…what do I wear to a baseball game? Well, fret no more, we’ve got a few sexy and foolproof baseball-attire outfits in store to help you out:

The Sporty Fan

For the athletic girl in us, the lazy-fashion girl in us, and the on-the-run girl in us, we have the “Sporty Fan” look. It’s safe to say that we are attending the University of Oregon and we love us some Nike (thanks Uncle Phil!). So to start off, grab your favorite fitted spirit-tee. Slip on a pair of form-flattering, booty-boosting, spandex pants that will get all of those visiting team players distracted from the game and looking at you instead. And just in case you feel like making a run for those foul balls, make the outfit come together with a sleek pair of Nike tennis shoes. The sporty fan girl in you will want to look cute, but who says you need to spend two hours on styling your hair? Instead, mess up that ponytail and tuck your hair into your best matching baseball cap.

The Edgy Fan

I like to call this “The Sandlot meets Grease” outfit. Every once in a while us girls may feel the need to spice up our wardrobe but still keep to the basics of timeless fashion pieces. This is where the black leather jacket comes into play. And after reading countless articles on the outfits men find sexiest, I think there is no going wrong with a simple white-tee and blue jean combo. A fun and spirited flat-rimmed hat, worn backwards on top of long and tossed curls, will add just the right touch of school spirit to this retro-classic style. In the movie The Sandlot, Benny puts on his PF Flyers and can run faster and jump higher than ever before. Today’s version of PF Flyers would be a classic pair of Converse shoes. Just make sure to jump over those puddles with these classic white shoes to keep them from getting dirty.

The Waterproof Fan

Let’s face it, even though it is March and the groundhog didn’t see its shadow so spring is here early this year, the rain in Eugene can still be temperamental and pour whenever it pleases. So it is always smart to have a waterproof outfit planned for those baseball games where we may find ourselves crouching under the overhead seating and latching on tight to a warm cup of hot chocolate. But we are Ducks and that means, no matter rain or shine, the weather won’t stop us from going out to support our favorite sport teams. Stay warm with an Oregon sweatshirt bundled underneath a black, puffy, zip-up vest. The more layers, the better. Then slip into an old pair of skinny jeans that can tuck nicely into some spirit-colored rain boots. And lastly, keep those ears warm and hair accessorized with a knitted headband. There’s no way a little rain will keep you away from PK Park after you’re geared up and ready to go in a waterproof outfit like this.

The Sweet-and-Sunny Fan

Even when it is still 50 degrees outside, if the sun is out on the University of Oregon campus, the shorts and sandals are on. If you’re asking me, there is absolutely nothing better than watching a spring baseball game with the sun shining. For those days, we’ve got an outfit that requires a little bit more accessorizing and effort while still staying casual. Showing school spirit doesn’t always require a hat or t-shirt filled with logos. Instead throwing on a loose-fitted, yellow sweater and a green headband will do just the trick. And when we plan on being in the sun for two or three hours, it is a no-brainer to step into those shorts and lets those legs get their tan on. Don’t forget sunscreen! A stylish, yet simple sandal and watch will add just the right amount of sweetness to this sunny getup.

Now you have no excuse to not go support Ducks baseball. Once you pick out a look that fits your style, take a breather and head on over to PK Park on a weekday or weekend game and get your mind off those exams. You deserve a break! The Ducks are playing back at home this week so check here to find out what games fit into your schedule.
