HCUO: Are you involved in any extracurricular activities on campus?
Mike: I am in the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, and I am currently applying for Habitat for Humanity, an organization that builds homes for people in the community that are in need of a shelter. After transferring here from my hometown in the fall, it took me some time to adjust to the school system and the atmosphere of the campus. My senior year, I hope to be a part of at least three separate organizations on campus.

HCUO: What subject do you excel at? What subject do you wish never existed?
Mike: I really would have to say psychology. I find social behavior extremely straightforward and interesting to talk about with friends and family. Sometimes I have to be told to shut up before I run my mouth in excitement. On the flipside, I have a difficult time in general with mathematics. I am highly proficient at all forms up to and including statistics, but once I pop open a calculus book, I find myself lost. I wouldn’t call calculus a whole new language, but it comes very close in my mind.

HCUO: Describe your ideal date.
Mike: My kind of date is simplistic in nature, but effective in its delivery. My ex-girlfriend loved the ocean and the stars. A few days after her birthday, I drove her down to the coast, and we spent all day laying out under the sun and watching the gulls. You could say that my ideal date is “cute” or “totally cliché,” but I have never come across a more perfect dating experience in all of my years.

HCUO: If you were on death row, what would you want your last meal to be and why?
Mike:  I would want my last meal to reflect the atrocious actions I had committed. I wouldn’t want something elegant or expensive, nor something that is enjoyable. Yes, it would be the last thing I would taste, but that to me doesn’t provide enough justification for a grand meal. The values I live by would demand that I suffer up until I was executed.

HCUO: What color best describes your personality and why?
Mike: If I had to narrow my focus to a single color, blue would have to be the most relevant to my overall personality. I would say that I am a laid back individual most of the time until it comes time to assert my opinion or defend my reasoning in an argument or conversation. At that point, I am more of a darker green. I am vigilant, straightforward and sometimes very abrupt and dark. I don’t tend to express these qualities, but I might not stand in the shadows of a conversation that I disagree with.

HCUO: What would you do if your partner cheated on you?
Mike: It’s happened before in a few of my past relationships, and I didn’t react in a way that you might think an angry and frustrated guy would. It’s difficult to say that if a partner were to cheat again that I would react the same way. If a girl didn’t feel satisfied with me in our relationship, then I would hope that she could work up the courage to explain to me how I could make her happy before she gave in and cheated.

HCUO: When, if ever, do you think it’s okay to tell a lie?
Mike: I think it’s safe to assume that we are all guilty of telling a lie on more than one occasion, myself included. That said, it is never right in my mind to lie, but some of the time a lie is the best defensive mechanism that we can come up with to retain a feeling of personal security.

HCUO: What one thing do you wish more women knew about men?
Mike: This is difficult! If it really came down to a single thing, I would have to say that I wish women were more open to the idea that beauty can come in several forms, not just brawn. Emotional connection is just as important as physical prowess; I’m convinced of it.

HCUO:  Any last words?
Mike: Everything you do in life, earn it. To include a quote that I live by daily: “Aim above morality, be not simply good. Be good for something.” – Henry David Thoreau

A University of Oregon junior and San Francisco native, Charmaine Ng loves authentic noodle dishes and will always opt for Asian and Italian cuisine when pressed to choose a restaurant. She is a self-proclaimed "noodler," someone who uses her noodle to collaborate with others and bring big ideas to life. She interns for a student-run full-service ad agency, blogs for a wedding and event planning company, and runs the UO Muggle Quidditch League. In her spare time, she sleeps, and sleeps, and sleeps - and dabbles in social media and blogging, her two biggest passions. Her quirkiness isn't apparent at first, but then she starts talking about packaging design and making funny faces, and you wonder what happened to that shy Asian girl you first met. With ambition bursting beyond the campus walls, Charmaine can't wait to graduate and work for an agency, company, or publication in community outreach efforts using social media.
