10 Cures for a Break-up

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

We’ve all been there.  Everyone’s had their heart broken at least once and it’s the absolute worst.  You feel like the world is over.  But the world’s not ending and you will move on!  It will just take some time.  In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to take your mind off it.

  1. Do things that make you happy
Start thinking about YOU again.  Get a manicure, a massage, go to a movie by yourself, buy a new pair of shoes, extend your workouts, go for a hike.  Do the little things that make you smile.
  2. Surround yourself with as many friends as possible  Being by yourself will only make you think about “that person” more.  Try to stay around people and let them get your mind off the situation.
  3. Avoid all social media  Going to their profile everyday to see if anything has changed will only make things worse.  Do yourself a favor and block them!
  4. Change up your routine  If you always take the same route to class, try a new one—or do anything that shakes things up.  Don’t order the same thing at Starbucks, change your desktop background, hang new pictures on your walls, switch up your hair color.  Do something different.
  5. Take on a new challenge  Do something completely out of your realm.  Pick up a new hobby like tennis, rock climbing, or swimming.  Make yourself feel uncomfortable and do something you would never have thought to do before.
  6. Dress cute  Put on a little mascara and some new heels.  It will instantly make you feel better!
  7. Journal  It’s an easy way to get your feelings out instead of bottling it all up.
  8. Keep busy  Don’t just sit at home—try to initiate hanging out with your friends.  The busier you are, the less your mind will think about it.
  9. Do not keep their stuff  It will only be a constant reminder.  If you don’t want to throw it away, at least put it in a place that you won’t have to see every day.
  10. Start crushing  You know that cutie in class you could never talk to until now?  Well, here’s your chance!

Remember: breaking up is never easy and it’s okay to be upset.  But you have to see past it and look at the bigger picture.  The best thing you can do is live your life well.
