6 Sustainable Fashion Brands to Shop Black Friday 2020

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

The fashion industry is one of the biggest contributors to environmental pollution. An article from The Guardian states that the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of all carbon emissions annually, and uses 1.5 trillion liters of water each year. Additionally, fast fashion fills up landfills as trends come and go and garments are quickly discarded only to be replaced by similar, cheaply-made pieces. One way to decrease your environmental footprint is to shop at sustainable, eco-conscious clothing brands. Here’s a list of some environmentally responsible brands to shop this Black Friday, November 27.

Girlfriend Collective

Shop accessories, athleisure, tops, bottoms, intimates and (new!) outerwear at Girlfriend Collective. With products made from at least 79% recycled materials, you can be an environmentally-conscious consumer by purchasing your clothes from this brand. In addition to their eco-friendly production practices, Girlfriend Collective is committed to providing a healthy environment for garment workers in their overseas factory by offering free meals, health check-ups, and exercise breaks to their garment makers. From Nov. 24 – 30, you can get 25% off sitewide.

Pact

At Pact, you can find fashion staples like tops, bottoms, dresses, sleepwear and intimates made from organic cotton and other eco-friendly materials. Pact is also a member of Fair Trade USA, and provides safe working conditions in all of their factories. Earn up to 40% off sitewide this Black Friday.

Tentree

Selling a wide assortment of products including apparel, hats, backpacks and accessories, you are sure to find gifts for anyone on your holiday shopping list at tentree. As the brand name suggests, tentree will plant 10 trees for every item purchased. The brand is also committed to using eco-friendly materials, organic cotton, and renewable energy in the creation of all products. Tentree refers to their day-after-Thanksgiving sale as “Green Friday” to highlight the positive environmental impact consumers can make by purchasing their items. Save up to 50% off sitewide this “Green” Friday.

Christy Dawn

Christy Dawn sells vintage-inspired pieces made from eco-friendly materials and recycled fabrics. Find pieces such as loungewear, footwear, outerwear, jumpsuits and overalls and more at Christy Dawn. In addition to using sustainable materials, this brand limits the amount of chemicals, water, and wastewater used in the manufacturing of their garments. Shop 30% off sitewide on Black Friday with code LOVE30.

Eileen Fisher

Eileen Fisher is another brand that uses a high proportion of eco-friendly and recycled materials in the production of their pieces. Eileen Fisher also works to reduce greenhouse gas emissions during the production stage. Shop women’s tops, bottoms, denim and more at this eco-conscious brand on Black Friday, and take an additional 50% off sale items.

Whimsy + Row

Find dresses, women’s tops, bottoms, outerwear, and loungewear made from recycled materials at Whimsy + Row. This brand also uses packaging made from recycled materials, so you can be confident your purchase is sustainable from the time of production all the way to its arrival on your doorstep. Whimsy + Row also limits the amount of chemical, water, and wastewater use in the production of their products. Take up to a whopping 75% off almost all items sitewide on Black Friday.

It’s no secret that sustainable brands can be more expensive than the typical fast-fashion brands. However, the higher prices are justified by the unmatched quality and environmentally-respectful production of pieces sold by these sustainable brands. Black Friday is an excellent opportunity to snag some sustainable pieces at affordable prices. Here’s to happy, sustainable shopping!
