On and Off the Basketball Court: Alex Rogers

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

This week, HCOSU met up with fellow OSU student and NCAA basketball player, Alex Rogers, to talk about life on and off the court.

Name: Alex Rogers
Year: Junior
Hometown: Cincinnati, Ohio
Major: Financial Planning

HC: What made you choose to come to OSU?
AR: I have always been a huge OSU fan and when I had the opportunity to play basketball here, it was a no-brainer.

HC: Did you always plan on playing college basketball?
AR: No, it was always a dream in the back of my head, but it really didn’t seem like a real possibility ‘til my sophomore year of high school.

HC: What’s the most memorable moment of your basketball career thus far?
AR: I would have to say going to the Final Four last year in New Orleans. Even though I couldn’t play because it was my transfer year, it was still the best basketball experience I’ve ever had.

HC: How do you balance school with basketball?
AR: It’s hard to do. Basketball or any sport at OSU will demand a lot of your time, but I just try and keep up with my school as much as possible.

HC: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
AR: My pre-game ritual would definitely be music. I always listen to music before every time I get onto a basketball court, specifically any type of Jay-Z.

HC: If you could play one-on-one against any basketball player, dead or alive, who would it be?
AR: That’s easy: Kobe Bryant. I mean, I would most likely come out on the losing end, but he is, by far, my favorite player in the NBA and of all time.

HC: What is one thing you want to do before you graduate?
AR: Jump in Mirror Lake before the Michigan game. I watched the jump last year, but didn’t get to jump in because of basketball and I will probably have to do the same thing this year. So, it may have to happen after I graduate, but I promise that I will do it one day. Graduated or not.

HC: What are your future plans once you leave OSU?
AR: Either to play basketball somewhere or to get a good job using my degree. Basically, whatever can be done to make as much money as possible.
