Have finals got you all “Bah Humbug?” and worreid you too are about to meet your fate with the ghosts of Christmas past, present, and future? Well, Scrooge, you’re not alone- all over campus the atmosphere is devoid of holiday spirit as we are once again thrown into finals (helll) week during the happiest time of year. BUT, no need to put on your green Grinch suit and hole away in the library- I’ve scoured the city for some awesome holiday events to get you back in the spirit and enjoy a much needed study break.Â
Â
If holiday lights get you all up in arms then check out some of these sweet light shows around the city:
- The Grand Illumination – located in downtown Columbus on the Scioto Mile Promenade and City Hall grounds. Unfortunately, the grand lighting ceremony has already passed, but the lights will be glistening until January 25th so go and check it out! (more information here:Â http://www.sciotomile.com/events/grand-illumination/)Â
- Fantasy of Lights – Grab your friends and head on down to the Alum Creek State Park Campgrounds for a light show you can enjoy in the very comfort (and warmth) of your car! (more information here:Â http://www.alumcreek.com/fol/)Â
- Columbus Zoo Lights – PSA: single girls are welcome to attend this event too. Grab your holiday hunny or just a bunch of girlfriends and head on down to see some awesome light displays and favorite zoo animals. (more info here:Â https://columbuszoo.org/home/visit/adventure-tracker#/932fba32-bd2f-67d7…)

But, maybe you’re just looking for a little bit of everything or just want to immerse yourself in holday cheer and decor:
- Check out a holiday movie at Gateway for a generous holiday price of $5! They’re showing everything from family favorites to old time classics so take a small chunk out of your day and check one out! (more information here: http://gatewayfilmcenter.com/spotlight-series/purplesnowflakes/ and http://gatewayfilmcenter.com/spotlight-series/holidayclassics/)Â
- Holiday Choir performances are being held all month long at the Columbus Statehouse. As its been said, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer, is singing loud for all to hear.” (check out event times here: http://www.ohiostatehouse.org/calendar)Â
- Laugh off some of that finals stress and head down to a show at Shadowbox Live. Holiday-themed shows are being performed now and it’s a great way to spend some time away from the library. (more information here: http://www.shadowboxlive.org/shows/holiday-hoopla)Â
- Embrace your inner child and head over to the Children’s Theatre to see some talented kids perform “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” (probably better than any pageant I was in, anyway). (more information here:Â http://www.columbuschildrenstheatre.org/the-best-christmas-pageant-ever….)Â
Â
Hopefully you get a chance to check out one (or a few) of these Holiday Spectaculars and let their be visions of sugarplums dancing in your head rather than those Organic Chemistry equations.Â
