Snapchat—duh!: Whenever I try explaining what Snapchat is to someone, it sounds so dumb! “Well, it’s an app that lets you send a picture to someone for no more than ten seconds.” The good thing is, everyone who has it knows exactly what I’m talking about and everyone that doesn’t have it just needs me to trust me that it’s genius! It’s probably most used for sending “selfies” while in the library, but it’s also great for sending pictures of your food to people to make them jealous, or basically just for anything random.
Wearcast: I never know what the weather is like, and whenever I ask, the response, “68 degrees,” doesn’t really translate into my language. My main problem with this is that I can’t determine what to wear when someone tells me it’s a certain degree outside. In college, you don’t have your mom telling you what to wear in the morning—which is why the Wearcast app is perfect! Not only does it tell you the current weather for your location, but it has outfit examples for what to wear each day.
Instagram: Who doesn’t want their pictures to look like they were professionally taken? Instagram is a great, fun way for you to upload your pictures and choose different filters to make yourself seem like a real photographer! Also, parents haven’t invaded this app yet, which is great for all of those weekend pictures you might not want to put on Facebook.
Hey Tell: Remember how fun walkie-talkies were? Now you can have one on your iPhone! It’s great for when your and your bff’s favorite song comes on in the car because you can Hey Tell it to her! Or when you wake up in the middle of the night from a dream you want to remember, you can just Hey Tell the recount.
Shazam: Whenever you hear a song and want to know the name/artist/lyrics, you can press a button in this app and it will let you know the details!
Cute Rabbits: This app is great for when you’re bored in class and want to look at cute bunnies. The screen starts out black and reveals a different cute bunny image each time you erase the black cover with your finger!
PBS Kids: Relive your childhood and watch Arthur on demand via your phone. This app is also great for when you’re babysitting on the road!
Simsimi: Remember Smarter Child? This is basically the same thing. Great for when you’re bored and no one is texting you.
Kindle: If you don’t mind reading on a really tiny screen, get this! Some books like Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights are free if you want to brush up on the classics.
Zite: This app essentially creates a personalized magazine for you based on what you say you’re interested in. It can also access your Google reader.

Also, the greatest thing is that all of these awesome apps are free!
