Many people feel that the beginning of the year is the perfect time to start fresh. With the new year comes making New Year’s resolutions, meaning so many different goals become attached to people’s lives. Unfortunately, it is a sad reality that many people often give up on their resolutions before the year is over, delaying their chances of success. Below, I have given some ideas to help you reach your goals and your full potential this year and for years to come. This list only contains suggestions for improvement, and in order to promote real change you will need dedication and effort to fuel your success.

1. Stay Consistent

Consistency is one of the most important aspects of any goal. Rather than putting so much energy into momentary bursts of motivation, prioritize discipline and consistency. So many people don’t accomplish their goals due to a lack of motivation, which is why consistency should be prioritized more than motivation when accomplishing your goals. Your motivation will fluctuate throughout the year, but if the steps are taken to stay consistent and disciplined, you will accomplish more of your goals. Having self-discipline can be challenging, but is rewarding overall!

2. Set Attainable Goals

In order to stay consistent and disciplined, you need to set realistic goals that align with your lifestyle and personality. If you know staying consistent will be difficult, start with smaller goals. You can also take steps to make the process more rewarding, such as after each milestone you complete within your goal you can reward yourself with a treat! Being realistic about what you want to accomplish is important to ensure that you don’t become too overwhelmed.

3. Be Kind to Yourself

It is essential to acknowledge that failure is necessary when accomplishing our goals since it is needed in order to grow and accomplish success. It is important to embrace your mistakes to allow yourself to move forward and adapt. There will be highs and lows in every journey, but it is vital to be kind to yourself when going through these lows. Learn from your mistakes and use what you have learned to better yourself—take time to reflect on yourself, your journey and your goals!

4. Make a Plan

To avoid confusion and promote consistency, creating a specific plan can aid you in following through with your goals. Having a well-thought-out plan to follow can help you hold yourself accountable and stay engaged throughout the year. Laying out a specific plan will allow you to think through your goals better and see if they can realistically fit into your lifestyle. It also allows you to measure your success and will leave you feeling more accomplished!

5. Make it a Lifestyle

If you are serious about accomplishing your goals and want to make the most of your resolutions, you need to incorporate them into your lifestyle. Make your goals more than a New Year’s resolution; push yourself to make your goals a permanent change. New Year’s resolutions are often forgotten throughout the year and not used purposefully in our lives. Pushing yourself to make a genuine change in your lifestyle could push you to grow into a better version of yourself. Whether that be working out, saving money, eating better or learning a new skill, pushing yourself to make a serious improvement in your life will only contribute to your success!

Aspirations and dreams are powerful motivators, but pushing yourself to accomplish these goals will foster a new sense of ambition. Starting now, push yourself to succeed and make actual changes that will last. All these positive changes in your life can encourage growth. It’s important to acknowledge the hardships that will come, but it’s also important to remember that they are worth embracing to make beneficial changes in your life. Make your goals this year more than a resolution—allow them to promote long-lasting and beneficial changes in your life.
