What I Learned From Lady Gaga’s New Documentary

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Lady Gaga’s new documentary Gaga: Five Foot Two was released on Netflix on Oct. 22nd. As a big fan of Lady Gaga, I watched it three times. This documentary is an intimate look at her life during the time she was making her album Joanne and preparing for the Super Bowl Half Time Show.

I love Lady Gaga not only because her songs are amazing, but because she is a great woman who inspires me a lot. Through this documentary, I learned more about Lady Gaga and I learned a lot about life. Here I want to share some of these lessons.

It is okay to be a little girl when it comes to love

Many of you may know that Lady Gaga and her ex-fiancé Taylor Kinney ended their 5-year relationship in July 2016. Except for some inside news claiming Gaga “was crushed at that time”, Lady Gaga never showed her feelings directly in public. In this documentary, Gaga finally reveal her deepest feelings. “I just want to make music and make more people happy, and, like go on a tour, and have a family, and like, I just can never get it all right at the same time,” she said.

I think I am a strong and powerful girl. However, when it comes to love, I am just a little girl. I was frustrated about this fact for a while but not anymore. I realized that when it comes to love, she is just a girl like me.

You need to accept yourself first

Many people still think of Gaga as a crazy woman who is always wearing bizarre clothes and being dramatic. As a fan, I know that’s not the real Gaga—or at least it’s just a part of her. I think Gaga finally showed her real personality in this album Joanne. In this documentary, Gaga said she has never been that personal with her fans—and that’s because she felt ready and good enough when she began to make Joanne.

My friend always says that she wants to be real but she just can’t do that. After watching this documentary, I once told her the reason is that even herself doesn’t like who she is. You need to be ready to be yourself before you want the world be ready to see the real you; you need learn to love yourself before you want someone to love you.

Growing up is important

“I can always bring my past with me but I can never go back. I got to leave myself behind,” Gaga said.

Growing up and learning from the mistake and failure are really important. We can never go back, all we can do is looking forward and building a brighter future.
