Wikipedia Blackout Draws Students’ Attention to SOPA, PIPA

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

This past Wednesday, Jan. 18, Wikipedia, Craigslist, and many other popular websites were “blacked out” for 24 hours to protest bills SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIPA (PROTECT IP Act).  The efforts succeeded in the pushing back of a committee hearing on SOPA and a planned Jan. 24 vote on PIPA.  SOPA and PIPA have been recognized as significant threats to free expression on the Internet; to learn more, visit Wikipedia’s article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SOPA_initiative/Learn_more
