10 Songs You Should Add to Your Playlist in 2023

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.
  1. “Night Shift” by Lucy Dacus

This is a personal favorite go-to cry song of mine. I discovered Lucy last year when I was talking to a girl for a few months over the summer. It was the first time I had felt genuine interest in someone in months and thought to myself, “This is it. She’s the one”. That was until she broke my heart right before the semester started after she told me that she had changed her mind about wanting a relationship. I was completely and utterly heartbroken, but for some reason couldn’t get myself to cry and feel the emotions that I needed to let out. I was completely numb to the situation up until I was introduced to this song by my best friend. I remember going home and just laying there in my bed with my headphones in. I turned this song on and it was the first time I had cried as hard as I did.

  1. ”Boyish” by Japanese Breakfast

“I want you and you want something more beautiful.” I mean come on, this song will have you crying in the club, like actually. The guitar towards the end is insanely beautiful and the lyrics will have you wishing that this song never existed because of how beautifully heartbreaking it is.

  1. “American Teenager” by Ethel Cain

Such a good driving on the backroads with your best friends with your windows rolled down during sunset hour in the summer song. This album in general is one of the best things to have dropped in 2022. Amazing and like no other.

  1. “Tear You Apart” by She Wants Revenge

This song is just so legendary and notorious for making you feel like a badass. A classic timeless work of art.

  1. “Quit Playing Cool” by Vlad Holiday

Vlad Holiday is such a great artist and one of my go-to’s whenever I am having a chill night in. Put a face-mask on, turn your humidifier on, pour yourself a glass of wine, and tell Alexa or your Google Home to blast this song. Just let the instrumentals alone sink in.

  1. “Something About You” by Hayden James, ODESZA Remix

I have a weak spot for EDM/Electronica music. This one is different. Put your headphones in and give this one a listen. It’s an outer body experience and feels like that moment when you lock eyes with a stranger at a party and everything just goes slow motion for a moment and time stops.

  1. “No. 1 Party Anthem” by Arctic Monkeys

2:20-3:10 part of the song. No. Words.

  1. “She’s So Lovely” by Beach House

Beach House is one of my personal favorite bands. They just have a very unique sound  and it is always a unique experience whenever I have them playing in my car.

  1. “Religion” by Lana Del Rey

This song makes me feel as if I am ascending from heaven. Definitely one of my all time favorites out of every song that she has made.

  1. “Untouched” by The Veronicas

This song is such a good throwback that I love to play every weekend before a night out with my girlfriends. It puts me in such a good getting-ready mood. Such a nostalgic song that brings me back to the early 2000s.
