Ray Lopez ’12

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Collegiettes™, meet Ray Lopez. As a junior who works in the Compass helping students get ahead in their careers, he’s all about lending a helping hand. Ray recently went to New Orleans to build houses with Oswego State’s community service department and works with the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) every summer. He’s our first single campus cutie, so flash him your pearly whites and he may be holding a door open for you on your next date!

Age: 21

Hometown: Rockland, NY

Ethnic background: Hispanic, Dominican

Major (s) and why: TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) because I didn’t speak any English when I was younger, so I want to help other students learn how to speak the language.

Expected graduation year: May 2012

Involvement on campus: I’m an advanced Compass Navigator, so I help students look for internships and jobs, critique their resumes and cover letters, and be there to help them figure out their personal sense of direction.

Relationship Status: SINGLE! ; )

Who’s the most important person in your life? My mom, hands down. She has done so much for me and I can only hope to pay her back one day.

Ideal girlfriend: I need a kind girl who is nice to everyone and goal-oriented. Oh, and I love a killer smile!

Idea of a perfect date: I’d like to keep it simple and traditional by taking her out to a nice dinner and a funny movie.

Favorite TV show/Movie: There are way too many to choose from, but I would pick sports or reality TV, and either a comedy or action movie.

Favorite Oswego bar: The Raven, Alley Cat and The Brick

Favorite quote: “The biggest regret in life are the risks you don’t take.” –Unknown

Hidden talent: I can move my ears and nostrils.

Random fact about you:  I put ketchup on my pizza!

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Hopefully I’ll be traveling the world!

She has been the Managing Editor of her student newspaper, The Oswegonian, and completed the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) summer internship program in 2010 at FITNESS magazine. Samantha recently launched Ed2010 at Oswego State, a national networking organization that helps students break into the magazine industry. These days, (when she’s not running from class to class) you can find Samantha at the campus fitness centers, where she works as the PR student manager and a personal trainer; working with Colleges Against Cancer to help find a cure; or in a comfy cafe chair reading her latest pile of magazines.
