I always feel a sense of pride when former Oswego students do something great after graduation. Phillip Elliott is no different.
Song for Salena is Elliott’s first album, released on June 21, 2012. The album has 11 songs and they are nothing like I have ever heard. The songs are more like a softer rap, which makes them easier to listen to and understand.
Of all of the songs on the album, my favorites are “Loaded Deck” and “Back in the Womb.” “Loaded Deck” has a good beat to it and nice music. It makes me feel like I am driving slowly with the top down, going through a deserted town. The lyrics have a head-bopping feeling to them. As for “Back to the Womb,” the piano in the background reminds me of the piano in the Maroon 5 song, “Sunday Morning,” which is great because I love that song.
Another great song is “Deep Dark Well.” It is the longest song on the album, but one worth listening to. Sam Katz is featured in this song and adds a nice, strong, beautiful voice to an already touching song.
