Ladies, if you are anything like me, you LOVE the holidays. No matter what holiday, there is a type of feeling in the air; An excitement that buzzes in the back of your mind. It’s comforting and familiar; something that reminds you of home and the ones you love.

That being said … school can be a total buzzkill for the holidays.

For example, look at October! It’s Halloween month! The month to be spooky, to dress up, eat candy, scare the bejeezus out of your friends, and to indulge in a little mischief. In our younger days, we would plan our costume a month in advance and eagerly await Halloween night to reap the sweet treats the streets dished. Quite simply, it was freaking awesome. But now? For those of us in college, this time of year heralds only one terror: midterms.

Perhaps it is a sign of growing up, but the holidays don’t seem to be as magical as they once were. Between work, school, clubs, volunteering and so much more, I feel as though we are steadily being bombarded by busyness, so much so that we forget to enjoy those once magical months. If this is what it’s like to be an adult, then I’d like to revoke my subscription.

Even so, the progression of time doesn’t stop and neither do we, it seems. But so what? Screw that, I say. I don’t know about you, ladies, but I’m not gonna give up my holiday spirit to “The Man.” So study hard, ladies, but play hard too. Don’t forget to watch those scary movies and eat those delicious Halloween sugar cookies after you kick midterms in the ass. Even if we have more responsibilities than we did as children, we can, and should, revel in some holiday fun.

Now if you’ll excuse me, Stephen King is calling my name.

I am currently I senior here at our fair SUNY Oswego! While I enjoy writing for Her Campus, I also participate as the managerial editor for the Great Lake Review, as a student manager(called a group leader) at the Mackin Dining Complex, and as a community service member for the Women's Honor Society, VEGA. My future is a bit of a mystery even to me, but I believe that I'll either pursue the life of a librarian or the life of a baker!
Kari is currently a second semester junior at Oswego State majoring in both Journalism and Global International Studies. She's a big city girl who was born in a small town. When not studying for her classes or obsessing over Her Campus, she can be found splurging on nail polish, watching documentaries, reading magazines, crafting, drinking chai tea, or gushing about animals.
