Thanksgiving is next week and we all have a lot to be thankful for. Here are ten of the many reasons (in no particular order):
1. The beautiful lake.
The lake is one of the things people talk about the most here. The sunset is pretty and the lake looks even better.
2. The bus system.
With the weather getting worse, the buses going around campus seems like a true gift. The wind here is awful, so not having to walk in it is great. The buses also go off-campus and to Rice Creek/Laker Hall/the commuter parking lots. We would all rather be on a nice, warm bus than walking everywhere.
3. The professors.
The professors here are wonderful. They are intelligent, friendly, helpful. We are fortunate enough to be taught by some of the smartest people around. Not every one of your professors may fit into this, but we should be thankful anyway.
4. Places to eat around campus.
We may not all love dining hall food (we’re in college, does anyone?) but there are a ton of good places to eat around campus and luckily, many academic buildings have places to eat right inside of them.
5. Dining halls connected to the dorms.
Not every dorm building has this luxury (sorry Scales, Waterbury, Sheldon and sometimes Moreland and Lonis), but for the ones that do, it is a blessing in disguise. We can wear slippers to the dining hall because we don’t have to walk outside. We don’t need to wear heavy jackets, gloves, scarves or boots.
6. Sports!
We still have one of the best ice hockey teams in Division III, along with great basketball teams. We are lucky enough to go to a school that has a ton of sports (no football, though). So if you’re ever feeling bored one day, go to a game! Support your fellow Lakers. We also have clubs sports, too.
7. Our famous alums.
Those include, Al Roker, Linda Cohn, Steve Levy. Jerry Seinfeld even went here for a bit. Don’t let people tell you those who go to Oswego don’t have successful futures because that is an obvious lie.
8. Our friends.
Let’s face it. The people who go to Oswego are awesome. There are a ton of friendly people all around.
9. Free cable on campus.
Some schools make students pay for how much cable they watch. While our cable isn’t technically free, we can watch as much as we want, without having to worry about the price going up.
10. The opportunity to go to college.
Sometimes, we don’t realize how lucky we are to even be able to go to college. There are millions of people out there who wish they were in our shoes. Our campus is beautiful and we have so many opportunities here.
