Tyler Scoins, ‘13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

Catch this Campus Cutie’s eye and you’ll be seeing stars. Physics major Tyler Scoins
has a passion for space, but that is not all that is out of this world. Take a nightly stroll with him and maybe he’ll show you his secret galaxy!

Age: 20

Hometown: Pembroke, NY

Major and why? Physics. I wanted to be an astronomer, but the school didn’t have that major, so I figured physics would be a good background for astronomy.

Expected Graduation Year: May 2013

Relationship Status: Single

What do you look for in a girl? The first thing would be the teeth; she has to have the teeth, be outgoing and she has to make me laugh. Life is too short to be serious all the time. Also, if she has really good eyes, it’s super sexy.

What are some of your hobbies? Strolls, it’s true, I like to stroll! I’m a big movie guy. There is no favorite movie, it’s a top few: “The Shawshank Redemption,” “Back to the Future,” “Fight Club,” and “Atlantis: The Lost Empire” is my favorite Disney movie ever. It’s so good, but it’s so underrated. I guess homework is a hobby now.

What animal would you be and why? Something loveable, maybe a sea otter? They are so cute. They go sliding down the waterslides and that’s fun! They are my favorite [animals] to watch at the zoo.

What is your biggest fear? Thinking about my fears!

Do you have a hidden talent? I can sleep for a long time?

What is your favorite home cooked meal? I went home a couple weeks ago, and my mom didn’t cook anything, but there are two choices. A hotdog with bacon on it, you’ll never go back to a regular hotdog again, and chicken tenders with mashed potatoes. You have to use the mashed potatoes as a dipping sauce.

What are some of your goals? My first goal would be to graduate from college, but also to have a roller coaster in my backyard. It’s every kid’s fantasy right there, but not the Superman because people die on there, a safe one. I want to work for NASA. I really had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, but I did some research on stars and space and realized I should go to school for that.

Kaitlin Provost graduated from SUNY Oswego, majoring in journalism with a learning agreement in photography. She grew up in five different towns all over the Northeast, eventually settling and graduating from high school in Hudson, Massachusetts. Kait now lives in the blustery town of Oswego, New York, where she can frequently be found running around like a madwoman, avoiding snow drifts taller than her head (which, incidentally, is not very tall). She has worked for her campus newspaper, The Oswegonian, as the Assistant News Editor, and is also the President of the Oswego chapter of Ed2010, a national organization which helps students break into the magazine industry. She hopes to one day work for National Geographic and travel the world.
