If you know anything about me, you know that I am one, a film major, and two, have multiple different styles of movies that I love. The two main ones, Disney movies, and horror movies. Weird, I know. So whenever someone asks me my favorite movie, it takes me a while to figure it out. I always end up blurting out some random movies like The Princess Bride (which is a great movie) or The Breakfast Club (which is also fantastic). So, let me take you through my movie process and what goes through my crazy, discombobulated head.

So firstly, it depends on who is asking the question: a friend, a teacher, or a stranger. If it’s a teacher, I may try to sound somewhat “scholarly” and say a movie classic or one that has won a crap ton of awards. If it’s a friend or a stranger, that’s when I have to pick a genre, horror, Disney (animation), or even go further into musicals. If I start thinking of a Disney movie, do I want to go old-school, Pixar, princess movie, or live-action? Majority of the time I go to the old-school (Peter Pan or The Hunchback of Notre Dame) or Pixar (Coco, Up, or Toy Story). The same thing with horror, do I go towards the supernatural, classic slasher films, demonic or simple sick movies, like Midsommar? I majorly go with the classic slasher (Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Trick ‘r Treat, Friday the 13th, etc).

While explaining my thought process, I have tried to think of what my favorite movie is, and, honestly, it’s a hard decision between Midsommar and The Nightmare Before Christmas. Midsommar is honestly one of the best modern-day horror movies ever, which was directed by Ari Aster. This movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s full of beautiful cinematography, a beautiful set design, and an amazing performance from Florence Pugh. On the other hand, The Nightmare Before Christmas is a Tim Burton cult classic, and the perfect movie for both Halloween and Christmas. The beautiful and advanced claymation helps to create this beautiful, dark fantasy world, plus with music by legendary Danny Elfman, you can’t go wrong! Both movies are beautifully dark in their own ways, and they are movies that people will talk about for a long time. Honestly, I’m just proud that I limited it down to two movies. Who knows, one day I will probably find another movie that really pops out at me, love it, and add it onto this list.
