You may be wondering “What’s study abroad”? Studying abroad is usually when you learn about a new country and actually travel to that country. There are two different study abroad programs. The first program I will introduce you to is the “ quarterly course”. This program is when you take the class then you will travel to the desired location. You may be wondering how you afford this as a college student.Â
- Applying for scholarships will be very beneficial. You will never know what opportunities you will get accepted to.
- Grants. There are certain grants that you can qualify for if you are in a certain country.
- Financial Aid. You can always use your financial aid package towards your study abroad experience.
- Another factor can be pulling out loans which is not ideal.
- Saving up money for this experience
The methods I used to provide for this trip was saving up money from my jobs. I’ve received a few scholarships. Also, pell and tap paid for a majority of the flight and other expenses. When I went down to Japan I brought about one grand with me and I only used about 90 percent of the money. I am an impulsive buyer when I’m on vacation so do not judge me.
The second program they have is the general traveling to another country for the semester. So, with this program you are able to live in the desired country that you chose for the rest of the semester and also attend the university.
The country I went to was Japan and it was an amazing experience. I did the quarterly course and it was a super easy course. I was in Japan for about three weeks and we followed an iterantary and we had free days. So, the entire trip was not just education but it was a fun experience also. My favorite places that I visited were probably Tokyo Disneyland and Ghibli Expo Park. Â
