This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxford Emory chapter.
He happily trails
along the sidewalk path
a golden retriever
with a labeled vest:
“service dog.”
As he pants from
the heat outside
his eyes meet mine
and I am greeted with his
innocence and friendliness,
whose warmth I can feel
from distances apart.
But his loyalty
never wavers
as his dainty paws
allow him to gracefully
act as a guide.
Turning the corner he
leads his owner towards
a familiar place and they
wander away together.
He is his owner’s helper
accompanying him
every day.
There is not only
trust and guidance
but also friendship.
To me that is a
beautiful thing.
