All About Lips: Lipstick Alternatives and Why You Should Try Them

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxy chapter.

You’ve finished dinner at the Marketplace and realized that all of your lipstick has rubbed off on your napkin. What a shame! Sometimes, with everything that is going on it can be difficult to keep up with appearances. I mean studying for that Kinesiology or Sociology test that you have tomorrow is more important than making sure that your makeup is looking good. However, it can be reassuring to have that reliable product that lasts all day. My friends use lip stain, which they swear by and promise that it lasts all day without reapplying. Here are some of my suggestions for different options of lip wear that range in intensity for a bit of that visible yet long-lasting pink hue (the best part is that if you apply it lightly, these products can be used on your cheeks too!)

For that “Not that Obvious” Look:
Use Revlon’s “Just Bitten” lip stain or YSL’s Rouge Pur Couture Vernis in #14.  They add a sheer stain that suggests that you have naturally pink lips.

Want to Moisturize Your Lips Too?:
Don’t fear, color will be there! Burt’s Bees has their line of Tinted Lip Balms – my favorite is the ‘Hibiscus’ color. Also, don’t hesitate to try out Tarte’s “Lipsurgence” or Clinique’s “Chubby Stick Moisturizing Color Lip Balm” in ‘Fuller Fig’.

Hey, But I Want my Lip Gloss with High Pigmentation!:
Shiny lip-gloss always makes a statement, especially when it’s in a bold color. “L’Oreal Paris Infallible Never Fail Lipgloss” in ‘Sangria’ truly never fails. It lasts for hours surprisingly, since lip-gloss is notorious for sliding off easily.

I’m Not Feeling the Shiny Look Too Much…:
If you’re more of a girl that favors a matte lip, Sonia Kashuk (sold at Target yay!) has her “Velvety Matte Lip Crayon” in ‘Rosey Nude’ or Bite offers their “High Pigment Matte Pencil” in ‘Chablis’.

While you’re stressing out about your deadlines (finals are coming up, eeek!), I hope that you don’t need to think twice about the color on your lips! These are only a few suggestions, but they can get the ball rolling if you are looking into investing in another beauty product. A girl can’t have too much of a good thing!

What’s your favorite lip product for daytime looks?
