Harry Styles Is a Squid in His New Music Video…Yeah, You Heard Me.

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

On Oct. 27, Harry Styles released a new music video for “Music for a Sushi Restaurant,” one of the songs off his third album, Harry’s House, and it was definitely not what his fans expected. Throughout the video, Styles starred as a bearded half-man, half-squid, and viewers see him trying to escape from being used as food. Styles begins to sing, and the chefs at Gill’s Lounge, the restaurant in the video, are mesmerized by his voice. So, instead of profiting off Styles as food, they profit off him as a performer. Towards the end of the video, we see Styles lose his voice while performing. Since the restaurant can no longer make money off his singing, they end up using him for food.

This was not the music video anyone was expecting. Last May, pictures circulated the internet of Styles dressed up in a Big Bird-esque outfit, flying through the air. When it was confirmed that “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” was getting a music video, fans assumed it was going to be more of a circus-themed music video, but they couldn’t have been more wrong. Fans even expressed some of their thoughts about the video on Twitter.

The “Music for a Sushi Restaurant” music video was definitely a big change from some of Styles’ other music videos, such as “Lights Up,” and “Falling,” but I did think it was an interesting way to portray the song (although I could do without all the touching and cutting of fish) and I’m curious to see what else he has up his sleeves for other music videos off of Harry’s House.
