On Feb. 17, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) returned to the big screen in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania; characters such as Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) also made appearances. We were also introduced to a new villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU): Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors. The movie follows the Langs, Van Dynes, and Pyms as they find themselves once again in the Quantum Realm, except this time, they aren’t alone.
I’ve seen a lot of people who have had some negative things to say about the movie, but personally, I really loved it. I may be a little biased here because I’m a big fan of the Ant-Man movies to begin with (and not just because of Paul Rudd). Was it as ground-breaking as some of the earlier movies in the MCU? No, but not every single Marvel movie will be as big as Avengers: Endgame, and it doesn’t need to be. Sometimes we need a silly little movie, and that’s what Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania provided. I found myself laughing while also being on the edge of my seat during the more serious scenes. One of the post-credit scenes also had a specific cameo that I won’t mention to prevent spoilers, but it had my jaw on the floor.
Do I think that you need to go to the theaters to see Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania? If you are a fan of the more monumental Marvel movies, then I would say save your money and wait until it’s on Disney+. However, if you’re like me and you’re just there for the vibes, I would say go check it out in theaters! I definitely didn’t leave the theater disappointed.
