I Went to the American Girl Doll Café and Healed My Inner Child

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pace chapter.

Yes, I’m a college student and I went to the American Girl Doll Café. As a child, I think I only went to the American Girl Doll Store once and had never eaten in the café before. I knew that my family couldn’t afford as many American Girl Dolls as my friends had and was grateful for the Molly doll I got handed down to me by my cousin. However, I’ve recently seen an increasingly large number of people our age on TikTok going as well. So, I suggested to my friend group that we go and was ecstatic when they said yes.

Once we got there, we were able to rent a doll to eat with us. We chose Maryellen, the 1950’s doll. Maryellen was absolutely slaying in her pink and blue dress with her hair in a ponytail. What shocked me, though, was how cheap the food was. This is the American Girl Doll Store we’re talking about here, their dolls cost $100. But they had practically a four-course meal for $25. With this meal, we were able to get unlimited drinks (I chose the pink lemonade and recommend anyone who goes after reading this get the same), cinnamon buns, an appetizer with vegetable cups and pretzels bites, an entree (the chicken fingers and french fries and they were one of the best chicken fingers I’ve ever had, no joke), and a dessert of a chocolate mousse with Oreo crumble in a flower pot. It even had a little flower sticking out of it. Overall, I would rate the dining experience a solid 10/10.

I think one of the best parts of this outing was just the nostalgia of it all. It brought me back to my childhood. Also, my friends and I got dressed up for the occasion to get the whole effect. One little girl that was at the café saw us all dressed up and said “They look so pretty,” which honestly made the day even better.

I think if you have the opportunity to go to the American Girl Doll Café, you should – no matter how old you are. My friends and I are all in college and we had just as much fun as a young girl would have there. And, didn’t you hear? New York’s hottest club is the American Girl Doll Café.
