Marvel is having an amazing year. Their newest films Captain Marvel and Avengers: Endgame shattered box office records. However, the MCU doesn’t just excel in the film industry. Marvel television shows are spread across several networks and platforms. As a huge Marvel fan myself, I’ve watched or at least tried watching pretty much every show in the MCU. What came before Agent Carter, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones and started this new era of Marvel television? Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., my personal favorite.
When you watch this show, it’s clear to see the way that it carved the path for so many other shows to be created. While over the years it’s popularity has fluctuated, it’s still going strong thanks to executives at Disney and I couldn’t be more grateful. Fans of the show like myself worried that the Season 5 finale titled “The End” was going to be the last time we see our favorite characters kicking ass on screen. Thankfully that’s not true and the show was picked up for a season 6 and 7.
(Some) Spoilers Ahead!!!
While the show isn’t always directly associated with the films, often times the show will deal with the repercussions of the films. For example, the show introduced magic after Doctor Strange and space travel after Guardians of the Galaxy. The films often open up more opportunities that the show then gets to explore and references to the films are made constantly. However, they were forced to ignore Endgame completely. The network was not clear when the season would air; because of this, there are certain things that this season isn’t able to talk about because if it had aired before Endgame came out, it would spoil it. So it’s safe to say this season is happening pre-snap.
It’s been over a year since season 5 ended and I could not be more excited about the show’s return. The premiere aired last week and it’s safe to say I have a lot of questions. While it’s clear that time has passed since the events of last season’s finale, it’s crazy to see how much has changed for these characters. This episode established so many new storylines that I absolutely can not wait to watch play out every week. I won’t spoil too much so you can go watch for yourself! If you’re a fan of Marvel, I can not recommend this show enough. If you’ve never seen the show before, all 5 seasons are on Netflix so be sure to binge and catch up so you can watch this season as it airs!
Check out Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Fridays at 8/7c on ABC!!
