The highly-anticipated third season of Ted Lasso has finally started to roll out on Apple TV. At the time of writing this, the first two episodes have dropped, and arguably, the two most important plot points of the season so far are that Trent Crimm (The Independent) is writing a book about AFC Richmond, and AFC Richmond has gained a new teammate, Zava. It has been about 18 months since the season two finale aired, which has given me time to ponder and think about my own personal wishlist/predictions for season three of Ted Lasso (some of which have already come true).
- Keeley & Roy Get Back Together
-
I would like to have a few words with Mr. Sudeikis, because whoever decided that Keeley and Roy should break up is, in the words of Roy’s niece Phoebe, “being stupid.” However, I have a feeling they will end up back together at the end of the season.
- We Find Out that Rupert Was Behind the Predictions of Richmond Being Relegated Again
-
As we have seen in previous seasons, Rupert is practically capable of doing everything to bring his former team down. It wouldn’t surprise me if he was capable of controlling things that seem beyond his control, including bribing publicity to make sure that Richmond finishes last in the season, having them relegated (again).
- Trent’s Book Becomes a Love Letter to Ted
-
A popular fan theory for season three was that Trent Crimm was going to write a book about AFC Richmond, following his departure from The Independent in the season two finale. In the second episode, “(I Don’t Want to Go to) Chelsea,” viewers see Trent navigating his first week with the Greyhounds. Watching Trent’s mannerisms around Ted has always been interesting, seeing as everyone but Ted seems to dislike Trent. With Trent’s sole focus now being on Richmond, I think that his book will become an unofficial love letter to “The Lasso Way” and how Ted’s coaching style affects everyone on his team.
My one self-indulgent hope for the season is that we get more side plots that focus on the Richmond players, especially given that Toheeb Jimoh (Sam Obisanya), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac McAdoo) and Billy Harris (Colin Hughes) have all been promoted to main cast members. After all, Ted wouldn’t have anybody to coach if there was no team.
