Name: Sofia DiPasquale
Age: 20
Year: Sophomore
Major: Women’s and Gender Studies
Minor: “Not declared yet, but most likely Marketing and Digital Media Studies”
What do you hope to see yourself doing with your major in ten years? “So I am not exactly sure what I want to do with my major or if I even want to have a career in my major, but most recently I have been thinking that it would be fun to create ads or Marketing campaigns that are inclusive of all genders and races and portray women and people of color in positive ways. I think I would find it difficult to work in an environment or office that isn’t feminist.”
What do you hope to accomplish before you graduate Pace? “I would like to complete at least 2 internships before I graduate. Also, I want to take full advantage of all of the classes that interest me; I plan on taking 18 credits every semester to get the most out of the tuition I pay.”
You are a lover of modern and contemporary art and that has played a role in your fashion and lifestyle. Who are your favorite artists? “I love art and I love going to museums. My favorite artist is Salvador Dalí, a surrealist painter. His best-known work is the Persistence of Memory (the painting with the drooping clocks). I was lucky to be able to see an exhibit of a lot of his works in Venice a few years ago, and ever since then he has been a favorite. Van Gogh is also another one of my favorites.”
One place in NYC you would like to explore more of? “Williamsburg. I just went there to see St. Lucia at Rough Trade recently and would love to go back during the daytime and explore more of the area.”
Politics is definitely something you find passion in and are an advocate why do you think it is important for young people to vote and rally for an upcoming candidate? “I am a huge Bernie Sanders supporter (#feelthebern!!!!) I think it’s very important for young people to become active in the upcoming election because for many of us, this is the first presidential election we can vote in. We are at a time where a lot of important social issues are at the forefront (Black Lives Matter, gay marriage, reproductive rights, feminism, etc.) and I think is very important to support the causes that you’re passionate about. We have the chance to make a change, because we finally outnumber the older generation. Don’t just listen to who your parents are voting for. They have different concerns than we do as young adults and your ideas might not align with them or whatever political party they support. Get informed and register to vote!!”
It’s no secret that from your Instagram account that you are a foodie. If you had to go to one place to eat in NYC, money not a factor, where would it be and why? “I think Sugar Factory. I have only been there once because it is so expensive, and I would love to be able to order most of the stuff on the menu, as well as one of their goblets.”
What piece of advice would you tell your freshman self? “I would tell myself to stop worrying so much about the future and just focus on school, my friends, and having fun living in the most exciting city in the world.”
Finally, what is the last song played on your Spotify or Apple Music playlist? “I am actually listening to the Hamilton soundtrack, so Cabinet Battle #1 is my last played song.”
Two truths and a lie:
“I am half-French.
I’m left-handed.
I love gift wrapping.”
