- Alice Chambers (Don’t Worry Darling)
-
If you’re looking for something a little creepy this year but still cute and timely, this costume is a great choice. All you need is a white dress, a black ribbon, and some fake blood (or real I guess, whatever floats your boat). This one is for all my Harry Styles stans who wish that Mr. Styles would kidnap you and trap you in the Victory Project.
- Chrissy Cunningham (Stranger Things)
-
I expect this will be a popular one this year, and for good reason! You can go classic and just wear the cheer uniform, or you could go for a more scary look and add some blood around the eyes. Bonus points if you can get one of your friends to dress as Eddie and sing the “Chrissy Wake Up” song.Â
- Wanda Maximoff (Marvel)
-
This is a fun one because there are many different ways you can dress as Wanda. Personally, I am partial to her costume from the 2000s era of WandaVision where she wears a Scarlet Witch costume from the comic books. But really any version of Wanda or Scarlet Witch would be iconic.
- Â Bloody Mabel (Only Murders in the Building)
-
If you haven’t watched Only Murders in the Building, what are you even doing? This costume is one of those chic “I just got framed for murder” looks. It’s just a simple white sweater, plaid skirt, and a massive blood stain on your chest, and if you’re feeling fancy, you can carry around a metal knitting needle. Selena Gomez is such an icon, why would you not want to dress as her?Â
- Timothée Chalamet and Pete Davidson (Saturday Night Live)
-
I have a stupid sense of humor, and personally think these costumes are peak comedy. They will surely be a hit on Instagram, and they’re somewhat casual outfits that you might be able to find in you or your friend’s closets.Â
- Ms. Florence Pugh at the Venice Film Festival
-
If you keep up with celebrity goings on, or you are like me and got overly invested in the Don’t Worry Darling drama, you’ll know about the iconic moment of Florence Pugh showing up in Venice in a three-piece purple matching set, with an Aperol spritz in hand. It’s such a glamorous look, and comfortable for a night out (although I don’t know how well it will keep you warm in the late October weather).
- Lydia Deetz (Beetlejuice)
-
The goth teen queen herself, very appropriate for spooky season. Lydia works well as a stand-alone costume, but it can be a group costume too if that’s your vibe! She has two pretty iconic looks, one being the all-black, spikey hair-do, and a Polaroid camera. The other is her red wedding dress from the end of the movie. If you don’t already own an all-black outfit, most secondhand stores will come through, and you might even find some really cool pieces!
- Christine “Lady bird” McPherson (Ladybird)
-
If you’re feeling a bit lazy this Halloween, or maybe Halloween just isn’t your vibe (no judgment…well maybe a little) this is the perfect costume for you. Just wear whatever you want and add a cast and some pink temporary dye or spray. Don’t forget to be a good girl and leave your phone at home.
- Wednesday Addams
-
A classic Halloween character, her outfit is so adorable, spooky, and easy to execute. I’m hoping this will be a popular one this year and next year because of the anticipated Wednesday TV show starring Jenna Ortega.Â
- Any Bridgerton character
-
Don’t even pretend like you didn’t watch this show. Everyone and their mother is thirsting over RegĂ©-Jean Page. Plus, everyone wants an excuse to wear a fancy dress right?! It’s classy, recognizable, (and a little sexy).
Honorable mentions: Group Costumes
Cher/Dion/Ty (Clueless)– Grab two of your friends and do a Clueless costume! I see this as a very practical costume because who doesn’t want to wear their outfits every day? I mean, come on, the plaid skirts, fabulous hats, mary janes, and fluffy pens? So you can justify spending money on this costume because you would wear the clothes anyway.Â
Mei/Miriam/Priya/Abby (Turning Red) – Maybe this is just me being a Disney adult, but I think this would be so cute! Turning Red was one of my favorite movies from this year. And these costumes would make another great excuse to buy clothes that you’ll keep on wearing after Halloween.
Clue – The characters from the iconic game and movie make for an excellent group costume. And who doesn’t love a monochromatic moment? Just make sure to stick with your group, or else you’ll look out of place wearing head-to-toe yellow for seemingly no reason.
