Going to school in New York definitely has its ups and downs especially getting from place to place. Here are a few things us NYC college kids deal with when it comes to transportation.
- We do not drive to parties, school, or anywhere else. The great thing about living in the city is public transportation, this means we travel by Subway, bus, taxi, uber, and every other car service available. Lucky for us no one needs to be the DD for any night!
- The MTA can be a real pain in the butt. The subway system is very old and is constantly being fixed and worked on, therefore, that A train you just got on is most likely running as an F, causing you to end up in the complete opposite part of the city.
- We take a car service whenever possible. Just like Blair Waldorf we too at times take black cars wherever we need to go, that is when you find someone who hasn’t used Gett yet and is able to receive $30 towards their first ride.
- Commuting is tough. Note to self, never enter an empty subway cart there’s a reason its empty and you’ll probably be able to smell it the second you walk in. We have to deal with train delays, bus delays, over crowded train cars, transferring from train to train and so much more.
- Spending $80 on that pair of shoes is totally worth it. Luckily we can get anywhere in the city by just simply walking so shoes are a very great investment when it comes to living in NYC.
- Traffic. New York City traffic is the worst so we know better than to grab a taxi 10 minutes before you have to be somewhere.
When it comes down to it never having to worry about rides, designated drivers, and all other issues with transportation is pretty awesome. At the end of the day we are very lucky to live in the city and know that we can get anywhere just by walking.Â
