What I have learned this semester
Life is full of ups and downs. Just when you think everything is going the way you want it to go, there is suddenly another curve ball thrown at you. Since graduating high school, my life is changed so much. I have grown in ways I never thought were possible, and I am learning that I am still growing. To be honest, this semester has been quite interesting for me. It has been filled with countless memories, both good and bad, that have definitely shaped me. I hope that by sharing what I have learned so far, it can help whoever is reading this.
I am not where I thought I would be
In the past, I always imagined myself on the classic college campus with a huge quad. I never would have pictured myself attending a school in the city, let alone living in New York City. Life is full of twists and turns, and it isn’t always going to go how you expect it.
Take one day at a time
I cannot stress this one enough. Looking at the big picture can be overwhelming at times. Sometimes, I want to know all of the answers but unfortunately that is not always possible. I need to remember that some things are out of my control so I should sit back and try to enjoy the ride.
It’s okay if you need to recharge your social battery
Being a student is hard work! Sometimes I do not have the energy to hang out with my friends, and that’s okay! Taking time for yourself does not mean that you are a bad friend. Always remember to put yourself first, and do what makes you comfortable.
Change is inevitable
As I said before, life is full of twists and turns. Going into college, I had totally different expectations and career goals for myself. Now, I have a totally different major and my ambitions have changed. Life is not constant, and somethings are bound to change. I have started to try to go with the flow more and roll with whatever life has given me. That has definitely helped my mental health.
Affirmations
Mindset is everything. I always try to do some affirmations every morning and night. I try to tell myself that I am going to have a great day. I never want to wake up and immediately think that a day is going to be bad. I have noticed that affirmations and positive mindset have helped my mental health as well. Just like life, this semester has been filled with twists and turns. It has been one of my favorites, but also one of my more challenging. These are all things that I have learned, and it has definitely been helpful, especially in the long run.
