What have you been involved with at Pepperdine? Mainly I’ve been involved with PGM. [I] went from a casual writer to copy editor, to Perspectives editor, and just finished my tenure as Currents assistant editor.
How was it being a leader at PGM? Difficult sometimes meeting deadlines and juggling different responsibilities, but it was also great. I made some of my best friends through PGM, and we became a mishmash of a family that I wouldn’t trade for the world. Also, nobody judged me for living in the newsroom or always napping on the couches, so that was nice too.
And how has your experience there shaped what you want to do after graduation, if at all? I don’t know how much it’s affected what I want to do after graduation since I still don’t know what I’m doing ever, but it’s given me a chance to hone my writing and editing skills, and now I have essentially a portfolio of published works online.
So you don’t know what’s next? [I’m] not sure yet, mainly because I was pretty late on the application grind, but… my life is hiding anxiety and stress under a thin veneer of humor and sarcasm.
What advice do you have for people who do not know what is next? So for myself, basically! Some advice one of my friends gave that I really value is to write down what you think you want to do, then to investigate each avenue. Talk to people, research online, whatever you need to do to understand that field of study or business. If you realize after doing that work that you’re not interested in that field, then pivot onto the next one. It’s harder to be stressed out when you have a plan and you’re chipping away at it. Also, talk to friends and people around you. I’ve talked to so many older people who have told me there’s nothing to stress about because I’m still so young. I rarely take that advice, but it’s still nice to hear from people who have gone through all of this already.  Basically: talking to people can be helpful and cathartic.
What is a fun fact about yourself that not many people know? I’ve only seen one Star Wars movie and that was only because I was forced to.
