Songfest has just kicked off, and while we all love the idea of Songfest (who wouldn’t love hanging out with their friends and singing and dancing?), about a week in the honeymoon phase is over and we’re wondering what were we thinking? Here’s how to survive when the nights drag on and the drama gets going:
Â
Stay on top of your homework. If you give your homework half a chance to start gaining on you, you’ll be drowning in it before you know it. Rehearsal’s right in the middle of most of our study hours, so try and get ahead on the weekends or when you have breaks during the day.
Â
Sleep. Going off of the ‘stay on top of your homework’ thread, don’t leave your homework until after rehearsal, especially if you have an 8 AM. Don’t go on facebook or head out for donuts either (at least, not every night). Midnight isn’t a late bedtime, as long as you actually go to bed as soon as rehearsal is over.Â
Â
Stay away from the drama. Spending your crankiest hours together day in and day out preparing for something that everyone has put way too much time into can put anyone over the edge. When tensions run high, do your best to stay away from the craziness. When the people in charge are trying to give everyone feedback, try to pay attention. Don’t talk back to the poor people trying to run your rehearsals, and when they snap try not to hold it against them. They’re getting half the sleep you are.Â
Â
Remember that it will all be over soon. A month from now you’ll be lamenting how much you miss the excitement of Songfest. For now, try to enjoy the late nights when you can and remember that it isn’t forever.
