The 5 Best Websites for Finding an Internship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

If you’re starting to search for internships now, you might be feeling a bit stressed and overwhelmed. A lot of people think that all the internships are gone at this point, but there still are a lot available if you know where to find them. Although we have compiled a short list of great options, it could also help to go the career services department and talk with an advisor there as well.

1. Internships.com

Listed under the Ten Best Websites for your Career by Forbes, Internships.com has over 60,000 postings at 25,000 companies in 8,000 cities across the U.S. The website is easy to navigate: just type in your major and where you work, and tons of internship opportunities are listed.  Although there are a lot of options, this is a good place to start your search.

2. USAJobs.gov

This is the government’s official site for federal jobs and employment information. It lists thousands of jobs from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to the Department of Transportation. It’s a great source because you can usually apply for the internship right on their website. It features a resume builder and a resource center that answers questions about eligibility as well as pay and benefits.

3. Idealist.org

Idealist seeks to, “Connect people, organizations, and resources to help build a world where all people can live free and dignified lives.” If you’re interesting in working for a nonprofit organization, then Idealist.org is the best place to start. Not only can you find jobs and internships here, you can also find organizations and volunteer opportunities.

4. FutureLinks

This might be the easiest way to find an internship without leaving the My Pitt webpage. Pitt and Career Services has come up with the FutureLinks database to help students find internships. The database locates internships, and also lists relevant workshops to help students not only find that perfect internship, but get it.

5. Your favorite company’s website

Is your dream to work at ESPN? Or at Cosmo? Go to their website and scourge the section listed ‘career opportunities’ and follow up on promising prospects. The perfect summer internship is one that you are passionate about- so go for it!
