It’s that time of year: we’re far enough into the semester that you need to take a break and do something fun, but you’re starting to get low on cash. Fear not! Here are five things that you can do with friends that won’t break the bank.
1. Game night
Have a group of friends over for a good, old-fashioned game night. Ask everyone to bring a drink or snack to share, along with their favorite board or card game. This will provide you with hours of fun and lots of food without having to supply it all yourself!
2. Visit a café
Go online and find a cute café that you’ve never been to before. Grab a friend and enjoy the ambiance! You can each buy a drink for a few dollars and then hang out and chat for as long as you’d like. This is also a great way to catch up with a friend you haven’t gotten to spend a lot of time with.
3. Get outside
Before it cools down and you’re stuck inside all winter, go enjoy the fresh air! You can go for a hike, have a picnic, play a game like Frisbee, or even just lounge in the sun. Pittsburgh also has Healthy Ride bikes that you can rent for only a couple of dollars, and a surprising amount of fun bike trails to visit.
4. Girls night in
It’s the classic money-saving hangout for a reason. Get a group of girls together to watch a movie, bake cookies, drink cheap wine (because, be honest, you probably can’t tell the difference anyway), order a pizza… Whatever you like to do! It’ll be relaxing and fun, and you won’t even have to leave the house.
5. Visit Pittsburgh’s museums
Take advantage of your Pitt ID and go see the museums! You can get into the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History, the Warhol, and the Mattress Factory for free, and there’s plenty to look at in any one of these museums to keep you entertained for hours. Bonus: with your ID, you don’t even have to pay for the bus to get there.
Now with all of these ideas in mind, go have a good time while saving your money!
