I’ll be honest— I’m just not that into Halloween, so while everyone was gearing up for spooky season, I was waiting for November 1st to come around so it would be acceptable for me start singing Christmas carols and put up my tree and bake cookies. November 1st has come and gone, and you can bet that I am in full holiday mood. Here are a few signs you, too, might be a little obsessed with the holiday season.
1. Your Christmas tree is already up.
When I asked my mom to bring up my Christmas tree when she came to visit over Halloweekend, she laughed a little, but if I don’t put up my Christmas tree now, it’ll hardly get to be up with finals being so early. Putting up my tree reminds that the holidays are coming and that means a vacation is coming and I’ll get to see my family and pets and relax for a few weeks. Every time I see a Christmas tree, it reminds me I have something to look forward to and lifts my mood.
2. Your cleaning playlist has changed from catchy pop to Christmas tunes.
From Mariah Carey to Michael Bublé to Snoop Dogg, almost every performer has covered a Christmas song. Cleaning is not too fun, but bopping around to “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and “Last Christmas” makes it so much better. Not to mention it’s familiarity which makes it the perfect music for cooking and baking cookies.
3. You’ve already started baking cookies.
The other day, I found the CUTEST cookie cutters at IKEA and I couldn’t help myself. Next thing you know, they were in my bag and on my counter and I had pulled out the flour and preheated the oven. There really is no better way to beat stress from exams than to take a break and bake some cookies. They don’t take long to whip up, you can motivate yourself to work hard while they’re baking, and when they’re done, you have an awesome snack to munch on while struggling through whatever assignment you have left to tackle.
4. You’ve pulled your holiday seaters out of storage.
I live for ugly sweater parties. I may not compete for the awards or go too wild, but I love seeing how creative everyone gets with their festive attire. I think it’s super fun that we have a whole tradition emerging regarding who can dress up in the most ridiculously festive manner. A girl can never have too many holiday sweaters.
5. You’ve already planning your Christmas shopping (and maybe you’ve already started).
My favorite part of Christmas is the fact that I get to get everyone I care about something for the holidays. Christmas isn’t all about the gifts, of course, but opening presents together has been a big part of the tradition for my family. Another opportunity I love to shop for are giving trees so that I can give back to the community too. Christmas shopping is a big bonding time for my family members and myself, and it’s another way to get excited about the holiday season with my family.
The end of the semester slump is, without a doubt, real but thankfully, the holidays are right around the corner! Decorate those trees, turn up those Christmas carols and bake some cookies. Finals will be over before we know it, and then it’ll be time to veg out on the couch with some eggnog and all the best movies. Happy definitely-not-too-early holidays!
